Before you buy a used Opel Vectra B.
Taken only from Testigo's sourced sheets. Use it to question the seller and on the test drive: it does not confirm that any particular car is affected.

The essentials.
- 4 documented, sourced faults across its 3 engines.
- They all depend on the equipment or the production date: ask what this car has.
- We have no official recalls on record for this model; ask anyway, with the chassis number (VIN).
- According to the data we have, the engine with the fewest documented faults is the 1.6 / 1.8 / 2.2 (Petrol).
Typical faults by engine
The period and mileage are those mentioned by each sheet's sources. They are not a maintenance interval and do not predict that any particular car will fail.

According to the data we have, the engine with the fewest documented faults is the 1.6 / 1.8 / 2.2 (Petrol).
By fuel, all versions have the same number of documented faults.
We only count the sourced sheets we have. An engine with fewer is not guaranteed to be more reliable: it may have been studied less or sold in smaller numbers.
Official recalls: ask before you pay
We have no official recalls on record for this model. Our list is not complete: ask anyway, with the chassis number.
- Ask the seller for the chassis number (VIN): it has 17 characters, appears in the car's documents and can usually also be seen at the base of the windscreen.
- Ask an official Opel dealer, or the brand's official website if it lets you check by chassis number, whether each recall has been done or is still outstanding for that VIN.
- Manufacturer recalls are normally carried out free of charge by the official service network. If one is outstanding, ask for it to be done before you close the sale.
On the test drive: what to look and listen for

Brakes and safety
Look out for: Airbag warning illuminated; confirm connector diagnosis.
Ask them to check: A technician should diagnose the connector and repair/secure the loom under the HELLA bulletin and manufacturer procedure.
Brakes
Look out for: The handbrake holds little or not at all on a slope, the lever comes up too far or the car fails its inspection because of the parking brake.
Ask them to check: Check the cables and their travel, the rear-wheel handbrake mechanism and its adjustment, and its efficiency on a brake tester.
Valve timing
Look out for: Noise or rattling from the timing area; the engine may start running badly, cut out suddenly and not start again.
Ask them to check: If there is timing noise or the engine has cut out suddenly, do not keep trying to start it: have the garage check the belt, the camshaft gears and the timing, and do a compression test in case valves have been damaged.
Engine
Look out for: It loses coolant with no visible leak, the engine overheats, white smoke comes out of the exhaust or there are bubbles and pressure in the coolant reservoir.
Ask them to check: Pressure-test the cooling system and test the coolant for combustion gases (CO₂); check the cylinder head is flat when replacing the gasket. Do not keep driving with the engine overheating.
