Before you buy a used Renault Espace (VI).
Taken only from Testigo's sourced sheets. Use it to question the seller and on the test drive: it does not confirm that any particular car is affected.

The essentials.
- 3 documented, sourced faults for its engine.
- They all depend on the equipment or the production date: ask what this car has.
- 1 official recall on record: ask for the chassis number (VIN) and confirm it has been done.
Typical faults by engine
The period and mileage are those mentioned by each sheet's sources. They are not a maintenance interval and do not predict that any particular car will fail.

Official recalls: ask before you pay
A recall existing does not mean this car is affected or that it is still outstanding: it depends on the chassis number, the market and the production date.
- Ask the seller for the chassis number (VIN): it has 17 characters, appears in the car's documents and can usually also be seen at the base of the windscreen.
- Ask an official Renault dealer, or the brand's official website if it lets you check by chassis number, whether each recall has been done or is still outstanding for that VIN.
- Manufacturer recalls are normally carried out free of charge by the official service network. If one is outstanding, ask for it to be done before you close the sale.

How to check it: Check the campaign by VIN at the dealer; meanwhile leave the car in gear or in P and check it does not move before getting out.

Gearbox
Look out for: Gearbox fault warning on the dashboard and limited performance; somewhat abrupt or slow shifts, typical of an unsynchronised gearbox.
Ask them to check: Check campaign 0E8K by VIN in the MyRenault app or at the dealer; if the warning appears, ask for the gearbox codes to be read.
Cooling
Look out for: The instrument panel shows “Risque de casse moteur” (risk of engine damage) and the computer stores code P26CAF5.
Ask them to check: With the warning, stop somewhere safe and do not push the engine. At the garage, read code P26CAF5 and check the electric water pump works; check the engine index and the build date.
Look out for: The message “injection à contrôler” (check injection) and a falling level in the expansion tank of the low-temperature circuit, with no visible leak.
Ask them to check: The garage first looks for leaks around the whole cooling system; if it finds none, it replaces the air/water heat exchanger. In the meantime, watch the level in the low-temperature tank.
