Applies if: Only if fitted with the air conditioning system described.
A/C not cooling: N280 valveClimate control
- Engine / equipment
- Air conditioning with clutchless compressor and N280 regulating valve (combustion VW, Audi, Seat, Cupra and Skoda from 2006)
- Period mentioned
- 2006–2026
- Symptoms
- The air does not cool or cools intermittently (for example only at motorway speed), and sometimes the compressor rattles with the A/C on. Codes 01232 (N280 valve), P2612 or 00898.
- Possible cause described
- The compressor regulates its output with the N280 solenoid valve, its most common failure point. Audi issued technical bulletins over a manufacturing fault in this valve on Sanden compressors. Its connector can also become brittle and corrode (especially without the engine undertray), or the wiring fails.
- Check for the garage
- Read the codes and N280 control current with VCDS or ODIS, measure its resistance (about 10 ohms) and check the connector and wiring before replacing parts. If the valve or compressor is replaced, the whole circuit must be flushed.
- Cost cited in the source
- N280 valve: a cheap part (about 30 dollars) where sold separately; new compressor with circuit flush: considerably moreA rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.

Engines: 1.0 / 1.2 TSI (Petrol)
Applies if: Only if fitted with the 7-speed DQ200 DSG. Confirm the gearbox type.
DSG7 gearbox mechatronic unit (DQ200)Gearbox
- Engine / equipment
- 7-speed DQ200 DSG gearbox (dry clutch, 0AM mechatronics), paired with 1.0/1.2/1.4 TSI and 1.6 TDI engines
- Period mentioned
- 2008 onwards
- Symptoms
- Judder or shudder pulling away in 1st/2nd, reverse won't engage, PRNDS letters flashing or a spanner warning, gearbox stuck in one gear (limp mode).
- Possible cause described
- Mechatronic unit failure: the pressure accumulator develops fatigue cracks, the electric pump runs constantly and the gearbox loses pressure. The mechatronic's 30 A fuse sometimes blows. Wear of the dry dual clutch is also common.
- Check for the garage
- Read the gearbox module faults with VCDS, OBDeleven or similar and check the mechatronic fuse.
- Cost cited in the source
- €350–550 to repair the mechatronic unit alone; €1,000–1,200 including removal and refittingA rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.

Engines: 1.0 / 1.2 TSI (Petrol)
Applies if: Only EA211 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 TSI/TFSI engines; the 1.5 TSI evo is not documented in this record's sources.
Water pump and thermostat housing leaks (EA211)Cooling
- Engine / equipment
- EA211 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 TSI/TFSI petrol (Golf VII, Polo, Octavia III, Leon 5F, A3 8V, Ibiza, Fabia III and other MQB cars)
- Period mentioned
- 2012–2020
- Symptoms
- Coolant level drops slowly with no visible puddle, dried white or pink residue behind the engine, a sweet smell and a low-level warning. If loss continues, it can overheat.
- Possible cause described
- The water pump is built into a plastic housing with the thermostats, which warps and cracks with heat cycles, and its seals degrade. A trade magazine also notes that oil from a nearby leak (for example the crankcase ventilation) speeds up failure of the housing and the pump belt.
- Check for the garage
- With the engine cold, monitor the level for several days and look for dried residue around the housing and the coolant pipe under the air box. At a garage: pressure test and check for nearby oil leaks. Replacing pump and housing as one assembly is recommended; do not use stop-leak products. Never open the system hot.
- Cost cited in the source
- A reliability guide quotes €500–1,000 for the 1.4 TSI and €300–600 for the 1.2 TSI.A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.

Engines: 1.0 / 1.2 TSI (Petrol)
Applies if: DSG gearbox only; the forks, on cars up to 2015.
DSG gearbox noise and traction problems fixed with the clutch or the 5th and reverse forks (Fabia III)Gearbox
- Engine / equipment
- 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox of the Škoda Fabia III with TSI petrol engine
- Period mentioned
- 2014–2018 (the forks, up to 2015)
- Symptoms
- The DSG gearbox is noisy; on cars up to 2015, traction problems (the car does not put its power down properly when accelerating).
- Possible cause described
- In its 100,000 km test of a Fabia Combi 1.2 TSI DSG (May 2018), L'argus reports two gearbox faults: the DSG can be noisy, fixed by replacing the clutch kit; and up to 2015 there were traction problems fixed by replacing the 5th and reverse gear forks. The 1.0 MPI and 1.2 TSI petrol engines proved more reliable than the diesel.
- Check for the garage
- Tell the garage when the gearbox makes noise and whether the car pulls badly when moving off; ask for a gearbox code read-out and, on a Fabia up to 2015, have the 5th and reverse forks checked before replacing the mechatronic unit.

PD TDI camshaft, injectors and cylinder headInjection / cylinder head
- Engine / equipment
- 1.2, 1.4, 1.9 and 2.0 TDI unit-injector (PD) engines, including the VW-sourced 2.0 CRD in Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep
- Period mentioned
- 2000–2010
- Symptoms
- Growing noise from the cylinder head, power loss and rough running (cams and lifters); unstable idle, smoke or hesitation (injectors); on the 16-valve 2.0 TDI, coolant loss with no visible leak from a cracked head.
- Possible cause described
- The camshaft also drives the unit injectors and carries a heavy load: without VW 505.01 oil the lobes and lifters wear. 2.0 TDI PD injectors fail frequently. Some 16-valve 2.0 TDI heads (part number ending in A) crack; VW considered it fixed by the end of 2006.
- Check for the garage
- Check the oil history (VW 505.01), listen to the head, check injector balance rates with a diagnostic tool and, on the 16-valve 2.0 TDI, read the head part number (03G 103 351) and look for coolant loss.
- Cost cited in the source
- Camshaft and lifters: approx. €400–800; 2.0 TDI PD injectors: €900–2,000A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.
Mileage cited in the database: 120,000–200,000 km. This is not a maintenance interval and does not predict a failure.

Engines: 1.4 TDI (Diesel)
Škoda Fabia III 1.4 TDI: EGR, particulate filter, sensors and flywheel according to L'argusExhaust and emissions
- Engine / equipment
- 1.4 TDI three-cylinder diesel of the Škoda Fabia III
- Period mentioned
- 2014–2018
- Symptoms
- L'argus does not describe the symptoms: it lists the parts that have failed on this engine.
- Possible cause described
- In its 100,000 km Fabia test (May 2018), L'argus says the 1.4 TDI had various faults: EGR valve, differential pressure sensor, particulate filter, flywheel (cars up to 1/1/2015), boost pressure sensor (up to 3/2/2016) and timing.
- Check for the garage
- When buying one, ask for the history of the EGR, particulate filter and timing, and a code read-out of the engine.
- Cost cited in the source
- No verified estimate; ask the garage for a quote.A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.
