Brakes, rust, central locking and handbrake on the Mondeo IIIKnown weak points
- Engine / equipment
- Ford Mondeo III (petrol and TDCi)
- Period mentioned
- 2000–2007
- Symptoms
- High brake wear, failing lights, rear axle, exhaust and drive-shaft defects at the roadworthiness test, rust on door edges and tailgate (up to 2005), failing central locking, a handbrake that barely holds or leaves the rear brake stuck, and hard starting in the cold or after short trips.
- Possible cause described
- Central locking fails because of moisture in the locks; the handbrake because of weak springs or rusty cables. Ford fixed the rust on post-2005 models. There was a recall for the cruise control, which could switch itself off or fail to switch off.
- Check for the garage
- Check brakes, handbrake, lights and rust before the roadworthiness test; check the cruise-control campaign by VIN.
- Cost cited in the source
