Mustang MT82 manual gearbox: jerking and gear clashGearbox
Engine / equipment
Getrag MT82 / MT82-D4 6-speed manual in the Ford Mustang
Period mentioned
2011–2020
Symptoms
The gearbox slips, jerks, clashes or engages harshly; hard-to-select gears and premature wear.
Possible cause described
A US class action (Gregorio v. Ford) claims the gearbox is defective and that replacing parts does not fix it; synchronisers too weak for the V8’s torque are blamed. Ford attributes it to normal wear, and NHTSA closed a 2011 investigation without finding a safety risk.
Check for the garage
Test every gear cold and warm; check the gearbox oil and clutch; ask about previous repairs.
