Front axle, brakes, 3.0 dCi V6 and turbo on the Espace IVKnown weak points
- Engine / equipment
- Renault Espace IV (petrol and diesel)
- Period mentioned
- 2002–2014
- Symptoms
- Joint and steering play at the roadworthiness test, early brake wear, a leaking panoramic roof, batteries, alternators, starters and injection; on the 3.0 dCi V6, coolant in the oil or being lost; on the four-cylinder diesels, turbo and clutch slave cylinder.
- Possible cause described
- The weight punishes the front axle. On the Isuzu 3.0 dCi V6 (2006–2010) the cylinder liners can sink under thermal load and end in serious failure; Auto Bild called it a “design fault”. There were recalls for the 3.0 dCi software and coolant tank, the clutch pedal and the EGR.
- Check for the garage
- On the 3.0 dCi, watch coolant and oil levels and run a combustion-gas test; check campaigns by VIN, the front axle and the roof.

Seized injectors and stretched chain on the 2.0 dCi (M9R)Timing / injection
- Engine / equipment
- 2.0 dCi (M9R) diesel with timing chain
- Period mentioned
- Approx. 2005–2023
- Symptoms
- Chain noise at high mileage; loss of power and emissions warnings in town use; injectors that will not come out when removed.
- Possible cause described
- The chain can stretch at high mileage, the injectors can seize in the cylinder head and, with short trips, the particulate filter and EGR clog.
- Check for the garage
- Listen to the chain from cold, check injection and emissions codes, and before removing injectors have extraction tools ready. Keep oil changes up to date.
