DSG7 gearbox mechatronic unit (DQ200)Gearbox
- Engine / equipment
- 7-speed DQ200 DSG gearbox (dry clutch, 0AM mechatronics), paired with 1.0/1.2/1.4 TSI and 1.6 TDI engines
- Period mentioned
- 2008 onwards
- Symptoms
- Judder or shudder pulling away in 1st/2nd, reverse won't engage, PRNDS letters flashing or a spanner warning, gearbox stuck in one gear (limp mode).
- Possible cause described
- Mechatronic unit failure: the pressure accumulator develops fatigue cracks, the electric pump runs constantly and the gearbox loses pressure. The mechatronic's 30 A fuse sometimes blows. Wear of the dry dual clutch is also common.
- Check for the garage
- Read the gearbox module faults with VCDS, OBDeleven or similar and check the mechatronic fuse.
- Cost cited in the source
- €350–550 to repair the mechatronic unit alone; €1,000–1,200 including removal and refittingA rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.

- Engine / equipment
- 1.2 / 1.4 TSI-TFSI EA111 (Polo, Golf V/VI, Ibiza, Fabia, Octavia, Audi A1, Yeti, Touran…)
- Period mentioned
- 2006–2014
- Symptoms
- Rattle on a cold start, engine light for timing deviation; if the chain jumps, the engine cranks but won't start.
- Possible cause described
- A narrow chain and a hydraulic tensioner that loses pressure: the chain stretches, often between 60,000 and 100,000 km. VW revised the chain, guides, tensioner and camshaft.
- Check for the garage
- Listen to a cold start and read the timing deviation values with VCDS. Ask for an invoice showing the revised kit was fitted.
- Cost cited in the source
- €800–1,500A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.
Mileage cited in the database: 60,000–100,000 km. This is not a maintenance interval and does not predict a failure.

A/C not cooling: N280 valveClimate control
- Engine / equipment
- Air conditioning with clutchless compressor and N280 regulating valve (combustion VW, Audi, Seat, Cupra and Skoda from 2006)
- Period mentioned
- 2006–2026
- Symptoms
- The air does not cool or cools intermittently (for example only at motorway speed), and sometimes the compressor rattles with the A/C on. Codes 01232 (N280 valve), P2612 or 00898.
- Possible cause described
- The compressor regulates its output with the N280 solenoid valve, its most common failure point. Audi issued technical bulletins over a manufacturing fault in this valve on Sanden compressors. Its connector can also become brittle and corrode (especially without the engine undertray), or the wiring fails.
- Check for the garage
- Read the codes and N280 control current with VCDS or ODIS, measure its resistance (about 10 ohms) and check the connector and wiring before replacing parts. If the valve or compressor is replaced, the whole circuit must be flushed.
- Cost cited in the source
- N280 valve: a cheap part (about 30 dollars) where sold separately; new compressor with circuit flush: considerably moreA rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.

Oil leak at the drive shaft flange on the gearbox (Fabia II)Gearbox
- Engine / equipment
- Škoda Fabia II (all versions)
- Period mentioned
- 2007–2014
- Symptoms
- Oil on the gearbox where the drive shaft comes out; it often shows up as early as the first roadworthiness test.
- Possible cause described
- AUTO BILD (October 2014) names the drive shaft flange on the gearbox as a typical oil leak on the Fabia II, often found by TÜV inspectors as early as the first test. The 2026 TÜV report published by AUTO BILD still gives oil leaks as one of the reasons the Fabia II has more defects than average.
- Check for the garage
- With the car on a lift, look for oil where the drive shaft meets the gearbox. If there is, replace the seal and check the gearbox oil level, because a gearbox low on oil gets damaged.

Wind noise and water inside from the front door seals (Fabia II)Bodywork
- Engine / equipment
- Škoda Fabia II (all versions)
- Period mentioned
- 2007–2014
- Symptoms
- Wind noise on the move and water getting into the cabin through the front doors.
- Possible cause described
- AUTO BILD (October 2014): the front door seals can sit crooked or come away, and then there is wind noise and water gets in. The 2026 TÜV report published by AUTO BILD still lists water leaks on the Fabia II.
- Check for the garage
- Check that the front door seals are seated and stuck down properly. If they are crooked or coming away, have them refitted or replaced, and dry the carpet.

Oil leak at the selector shaft of the 5-speed manual gearbox (petrol Fabia II and Roomster)Gearbox
- Engine / equipment
- Petrol Škoda Fabia II and Roomster with the 5-speed manual gearbox
- Period mentioned
- 2006–2010
- Symptoms
- Oil leaking from the gearbox around the shaft that moves the gears.
- Possible cause described
- AUTO BILD (June 2010): the 5-speed manual gearboxes of petrol Fabia II and Roomster cars leak oil at the selector shaft. Failures of the gearbox itself are rare.
- Check for the garage
- Look for oil around the gearbox selector shaft. According to AUTO BILD, replacing the seal is not a big job; check the gearbox oil level afterwards.

Hard to engage 3rd and 4th, gearbox noise or damaged clutch and flywheel on early Fabia IIGearbox
- Engine / equipment
- Manual gearbox of the Škoda Fabia II (5J)
- Period mentioned
- 2007–2009 (L'argus, May 2009)
- Symptoms
- Third and fourth are hard to engage; gearbox noise from about 30,000 km; damaged clutch disc and flywheel.
- Possible cause described
- L'argus (May 2009) reports three faults of the Fabia II gearbox from the technical notes going round garages: the synchroniser, which makes 3rd and 4th hard to engage; a badly fitted bearing, which makes the gearbox noisy after about 30,000 km; and distortion of the gearbox centring dowels (modified at the factory), which ends up damaging the clutch disc and the flywheel.
- Check for the garage
- Tell the garage which gears are hard to engage and when the gearbox makes noise (on releasing the clutch, in a particular gear, in neutral). If the clutch slips or judders, have them also check the flywheel and the gearbox centring when it is taken apart.

Bosch ABS fault fixed by reprogramming and condensation inside headlights and rear lights (Fabia II)Electrical and electronic systems
- Engine / equipment
- Bosch ABS unit and headlights and rear lights of the Škoda Fabia II (5J)
- Period mentioned
- 2007–2009 (L'argus, May 2009)
- Symptoms
- ABS fault (L'argus does not say what the driver notices); headlights and rear lights misted up inside.
- Possible cause described
- According to the technical notes reported by L'argus (May 2009), the Fabia II's Bosch ABS unit can have a fault that is fixed by reprogramming it, and the headlights and rear lights tend to collect condensation inside.
- Check for the garage
- With the ABS warning light on, ask first for a code read-out and ask about reprogramming the unit before replacing it. If a headlight or rear light mists up, check its seals and rear cap: with a lot of water inside, the light may fail the MOT or periodic inspection.
