Injectors, particulate filter and air filter on the Land Cruiser 200 (4.5 V8 D-4D)Injection / turbo
- Engine / equipment
- 4.5 V8 D-4D (1VD-FTV): Land Cruiser 200
- Period mentioned
- 2008–2021
- Symptoms
- Rough idle, loss of power, heavy smoke and high consumption; soot in the tailpipe; mass-airflow sensor warnings and limp mode; red dust on the clean side of the airbox; a driveline clunk when pulling away.
- Possible cause described
- From the 2015 update there were particulate-filter and EGR problems (Toyota recalled the 2015 and 2016 models). The piezo injectors mainly fail because of their seat washers: the excess fuel stops the filter from regenerating and can damage the engine. The airbox lets fine dust through, which ruins the mass-airflow sensor and, in bad cases, the right-hand turbo. The prop-shaft universal joints need greasing.
- Check for the garage
- Read the fuel-system codes; check the exhaust for soot; open the airbox and look for dust behind the filter; check the right-hand turbo for shaft play; grease the universal joints every six months.
- Cost cited in the source
- Approx. AUD 4,000 for the eight injectors fitted yourself, plus several thousand in garage labour (Unsealed 4x4).A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.
