Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Sensor Circuit High
The manifold pressure (MAP) sensor sends the ECU a voltage that rises and falls with the pressure of the air going into the engine.
What the car has detected
The voltage coming from the sensor is higher than a healthy sensor can give, often because of a broken wire or one touching positive.
The ECU falls back on default values and the car may lack power or go into limp mode. It is worth having it checked soon.
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- Loss of power or limp mode
- Black smoke or high fuel use on some engines
Possible causes
- Broken or shorted wire, or a loose or corroded connector
- Faulty manifold pressure sensor
- Broken sensor earth
Checks for the garage
- Check the sensor wiring and connector
- Measure the sensor’s supply, earth and signal
- Compare the live data reading with the expected one
Next step
Ask for the wiring and connector of the manifold pressure sensor to be checked before the sensor is replaced.
Go to a garage soon. The electrical check needs a multimeter and a diagnostic tool.
