Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low
A sensor measures the temperature of the air going into the engine, because cold air is denser. The ECU uses it to adjust fuel and ignition.
What the car has detected
The sensor voltage is so low that it would mean very hot air: it is usually a wire shorted to earth or the sensor.
It is not dangerous: the ECU uses a default value. You may notice slightly higher fuel use or worse cold starts. Have it checked when you can.
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- Slightly worse cold starts
Possible causes
- Sensor wire shorted to earth
- Faulty air temperature sensor
- Blown fuse
Checks for the garage
- Check the circuit fuse
- Check the sensor wiring and connector
- Compare the live data reading with the expected one
Next step
Ask for the fuse, the wiring and the air temperature sensor, sometimes built into the air flow meter, to be checked.
You can keep using the car and book a visit without hurry.
