Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit High
The throttle body controls how much air goes into the engine. Two sensors tell the ECU how far open it is, and the ECU compares one with the other.
What the car has detected
The throttle position sensor signal is higher than possible: wire, connector, a dirty throttle body or a faulty sensor.
With a throttle fault the ECU usually limits the engine (limp mode) and the car barely accelerates. Drive carefully and have it checked soon.
Symptoms
- Engine or EPC warning light on
- Idle higher than normal
- Bucking when the load changes
Possible causes
- Blown fuse
- Broken or shorted wire, or a loose or corroded connector
- Dirty or faulty throttle body
- Faulty throttle position sensor
Checks for the garage
- Check the circuit fuse
- Clean the throttle body and run its adaptation
- Check the throttle body connector and wiring
Next step
Ask for the fuse, the wiring and the throttle body to be checked, cleaned and adapted.
Go to a garage soon. The electrical check needs a multimeter and a diagnostic tool.
