Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Range/Performance
The throttle body controls how much air goes into the engine. Two sensors tell the ECU how far open it is, and the ECU compares one with the other.
What the car has detected
The second throttle sensor does not agree with the first or jumps: it is nearly always the throttle body wiring or connector.
With a throttle fault the ECU usually limits the engine (limp mode) and the car barely accelerates. Drive carefully and have it checked soon.
Symptoms
- Engine or EPC warning light on
- Loss of power or limp mode
Possible causes
- Throttle body wiring or connector
- Dirty or faulty throttle body
Checks for the garage
- Check the throttle body connector and wiring
- Compare the two throttle sensors in live data
Next step
Ask for the throttle body connector and wiring to be checked before it is replaced.
Go to a garage soon. The electrical check needs a multimeter and a diagnostic tool.
