Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
A sensor measures the pressure the turbo builds in the intake. The ECU compares it with the outside pressure sensor and with what it is asking the turbo for.
What the car has detected
The boost sensor pressure does not match the outside pressure (with the engine off they should be almost the same) or is not the expected one.
The car usually goes into limp mode and loses power, but it can be driven gently to a garage.
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- Loss of power or limp mode
- The turbo does not pull as before
Possible causes
- Split or loose turbo or intercooler hose
- Dirty or faulty boost pressure sensor
- Turbo actuator not moving properly
- Broken or shorted wire, or a loose or corroded connector
Checks for the garage
- With the engine off, compare the boost pressure and the outside pressure
- Look for leaks in the hoses and the intercooler
- Check the sensor wiring and connector
Next step
Ask for the turbo and intercooler hoses, the pressure sensor and its wiring to be checked.
Go to a garage soon and drive gently meanwhile. A leak test of the intake is done at the garage.
