Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Low (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
The camshaft position sensor (phase sensor) tells the ECU where each cylinder is in its cycle.
What the car has detected
The sensor signal is too low or missing: it is nearly always a wire, the connector or the sensor itself.
The car may be slow to start or not start, especially when hot. Have it checked soon so you are not left stranded.
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- Long cranking or the engine does not start
- Stalls suddenly in some cases
Possible causes
- Broken or shorted wire, or a loose or corroded connector
- Failed camshaft sensor
- Oil in the connector from a leaking seal
Checks for the garage
- Check the sensor wiring and connector
- Measure the sensor’s supply and signal
- Look for oil in the connector
Next step
Ask for the wiring and connector of the camshaft sensor to be checked before it is replaced.
Go to a garage soon. If the car stalls or will not start, call for assistance instead of cranking on.
