P0346 Bank 2 camshaft sensor: signal that does not add up

Urgency medium

A code identifies a signal or system that needs to be checked, not a part you should replace.

Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2

On V engines each cylinder head has its camshaft and sensor. The bank 2 one tells the ECU the position of the second head.

What the car has detected

The bank 2 sensor signal does not come when the ECU expects it: sensor, wiring or timing out.

The car may be slow to start or lack power. If the chain rattles at start-up, the timing may be damaged: have it checked soon.

Symptoms

  • Engine warning light on
  • Long or hard starting

Possible causes

  • Failed camshaft sensor
  • Broken or shorted wire, or a loose or corroded connector
  • Timing out

Checks for the garage

  • Check the sensor wiring and connector
  • Check the timing

Next step

Ask for the bank 2 sensor, its wiring and the timing to be checked.

Go to a garage soon. Checking the timing needs garage tools.
