Control Module Processor
The engine ECU monitors itself: it checks its memory and its processor every time it runs.
What the car has detected
The ECU has found a fault in its own processor or its internal calculations.
A failing ECU can make the engine stall or behave oddly. Have it checked as soon as possible and avoid long trips until then.
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- The engine stalls or will not start
- Odd, intermittent faults
Possible causes
- Faulty engine ECU
- Poor ECU power supply or earth
- Corrupted software or a botched remap
Checks for the garage
- Check the battery and charging voltage
- Check the engine computer's supply and earth points
- Ask whether the maker has a software update
Next step
Ask for the ECU’s power supply and earths to be checked, and whether a software update exists, before it is replaced.
Go to a garage as soon as possible. If the car stalls while driving, stop in a safe place and call for assistance.
