P0113 Intake air temperature sensor signal high

Urgency low

A code identifies a signal or system that needs to be checked, not a part you should replace.

Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High

This sensor measures the temperature of the air going into the engine; the ECU uses it to adjust the mixture and the ignition.

What the car has detected

The intake air temperature sensor signal is higher than possible. It usually means an open circuit, a loose connector or a faulty sensor.

The car usually runs almost the same, because the ECU uses a backup value. It is not urgent, but fix it so the car does not use or pollute more than it should.

Symptoms

  • Engine warning light on
  • Sometimes, harder cold starts or higher consumption

Possible causes

  • Damaged or loose sensor wiring or connector
  • Faulty air temperature sensor
  • Blown fuse

Checks for the garage

  • Check the circuit fuse
  • Check the sensor connector and wiring
  • Check with the diagnostic tool that the air temperature makes sense (with a cold engine, close to the outside temperature)

Next step

Ask them to check the fuse, the connector and wiring of the air temperature sensor, and the sensor itself.

It can wait a few days, but go to a garage if the light stays on or you notice jerking. Often fixing a connector or replacing the sensor is enough.
