Glow Plug/Heater Circuit A
On diesel engines, the glow plugs heat the combustion chamber so the engine starts well when cold.
What the car has detected
The ECU detects an electrical fault in the glow plug circuit: a burnt-out glow plug, or a damaged wire or connector.
With a warm engine you hardly notice it, but when cold it can be hard to start. It is not urgent, but fix it before winter.
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on
- The glow plug light does not come on or goes out quickly
- Longer or harder starting
Possible causes
- Burnt-out glow plug
- Damaged glow plug wiring or connector
Checks for the garage
- Measure the resistance of each glow plug
- Check the glow plug wiring and connectors
Next step
Ask them to check the glow plugs and their wiring.
It can wait if the car starts well, but replace them before the cold comes. Removing a seized glow plug is delicate: leave it to a garage.
