Official recalls: ask before you pay

A recall existing does not mean this car is affected or that it is still outstanding: it depends on the chassis number, the market and the production date.

  1. Ask the seller for the chassis number (VIN): it has 17 characters, appears in the car's documents and can usually also be seen at the base of the windscreen.
  2. Ask an official Nissan dealer, or the brand's official website if it lets you check by chassis number, whether each recall has been done or is still outstanding for that VIN.
  3. Manufacturer recalls are normally carried out free of charge by the official service network. If one is outstanding, ask for it to be done before you close the sale.

Climate control

  • Look out for: On a cold start no air comes out because the blower does not run; it starts if you switch the A/C off and on again.

Ask them to check: Meanwhile, switch the A/C off and on to get the blower going, especially if you need to demist. Ask the garage to check the amplifier part number as the bulletin says.

Bodywork

  • Look out for: A gurgling, dripping or draining noise comes from the sunroof when driving in the rain.

Ask them to check: Tell the garage the noise comes from the sunroof in the rain; following the bulletin, they replace both front drain tube grommets.

  • Look out for: Water around the rear wiper arm pivot seal, on the tailgate.

Ask them to check: If you see water or damp near the rear wiper motor or in the boot, ask for the water test and a new seal.

  • Look out for: Water leaks in at one of the top corners of the windscreen, or there are water stains on the headlining or on the front pillar trims.

Ask them to check: If you see water or stains near the corners of the windscreen, have the front clips of the roof rails checked as the bulletin describes.

Suspension and steering

  • Look out for: Clicking, rattling or squeaking from the rear when going over bumps.

Ask them to check: Have the rear shock absorber mounts checked for the debris cap and for built-up dirt.
