- Engine / equipment
- BMW 4- and 6-cylinder diesels, depending on model and engine (N47, B47, N57 and others)
- Period mentioned
- Recall of July 2019 (an extension of an earlier one)
- Symptoms
- The ADAC does not describe earlier symptoms. In the worst case the deposit ignites at high exhaust temperatures, the intake manifold melts and there can be a fire.
- Possible cause described
- According to the ADAC, small amounts of glycol can escape from the EGR cooler and collect in the module; with soot and oil traces they form a combustible mixture that can burn at high exhaust temperatures. In rare cases the intake manifold melts and, at the extreme, there is a fire. Depending on model and engine the EGR module is checked and defective parts replaced. It is free and covered 328,000 cars in Germany (with other models).
