Possible cause described

According to the ADAC (2021 breakdown statistics), the Astra H is about average for its class and slightly below average in the German roadworthiness test; the main problem areas are oil-damp drive units and broken springs. The 1.7 CDTI up to 125 PS vibrates and is unrefined; the 1.9 CDTI is much smoother. The Easytronic automated gearbox (1.3 CDTI only) has very slow shifts, jerky pull-away and higher consumption; if you want an automatic, the ADAC recommends the 1.9 CDTI with the six-speed automatic.

Check for the garage

Before buying, look for oil leaks at the engine and gearbox, the suspension springs, the cooling hoses and the state of the EGR; and avoid the Easytronic if you do not need it.
