Possible cause described

According to the ADAC, the second-generation Octavia is slightly above average in its breakdown statistics; in the German roadworthiness test the main complaints are broken suspension springs and more faulty lights. The number one breakdown cause is the ignition lock. The pump-injector 1.9 TDI (up to 2009) runs louder but is considered enormously robust; the common rail engines (from 2009) are smoother but need a mandatory software update.
