- Engine / equipment
- 2.0 TDI with the six-speed manual of the Golf V (and Golf Plus), the Touran and the Audi A3
- Period mentioned
- Recalls of 2005 and 2006
- Symptoms
- Damage to the dual-mass flywheel with clutch failure and, with bad luck, fire damage, if the clutch pedal is let go suddenly.
- Possible cause described
- According to the ADAC, because of an insufficient design of the vent valve in the clutch pressure line, extreme clutch engagement (letting the pedal go suddenly) can damage the dual-mass flywheel and leave you without a clutch; in unfavourable circumstances there can be a fire. The dealer checks whether the flywheel is LUK or Sachs: the LUK one is replaced together with the valve and the Sachs one needs nothing more. Free, one to five hours. In Germany it covered 20,000 Golf Vs (March 2006), 18,000 Tourans (June 2005) and 22,000 Audi A3s (February 2006).
- Check for the garage
- Ask by VIN whether it was done (it is an old recall). Do not let the clutch pedal go suddenly; if the clutch slips or there is a burning smell, stop and take it to a garage.
