A recall does not mean your car is affected. Check the market, build date and VIN with the manufacturer.
- Engine / equipment
- Communication module of the eCall emergency call: Mercedes-Benz SL (R231) and SLC (R172), among many other models
- Period mentioned
- Built from 4/1/2016 to 29/1/2021 (only the VINs in the recall)
- Symptoms
- The official record describes no symptoms: the car works normally. The risk is that, after a crash, the automatic emergency call does not behave as it should.
- Possible cause described
- The behaviour of the emergency call system may not meet specification because of the software in its communication module. In the UK these are recalls R/2021/111 (Mercedes SRPC2111, 90,716 cars) and R/2021/376 (SRPC2152, 50,390 cars), which include the SL 231 and the SLK/SLC along with most of the brand’s models built from 4/1/2016 to 29/1/2021.
- Check for the garage
- Ask a Mercedes-Benz dealer, with the VIN, whether your car has either of these recalls outstanding: they update the communication module software free of charge.
- Cost cited in the source
- No verified estimate; check whether the free recall remedy remains outstanding for the VIN.A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.
