A recall does not mean your car is affected. Check the market, build date and VIN with the manufacturer.
- Engine / equipment
- Joint between the steering wheel spindle and the steering column: Opel Antara
- Period mentioned
- Built from March 2006 to December 2007 (only the VINs in the recall)
- Symptoms
- The source describes no early warning signs. In the worst case, the car stops responding to the steering wheel.
- Possible cause described
- Because of a possible assembly fault, the steering wheel spindle may come loose from the steering column; in the worst case the car can no longer be steered. According to AUTO BILD (April 2010), GM found it in its own testing; in Germany it affected about 10,600 Antara built from March 2006 to December 2007 (and Chevrolet Captiva from 2006 to 2008), with the German authority KBA involved. The check takes about 5 minutes and the repair about 20.
- Check for the garage
- If your Antara was built in that period, ask an Opel dealer, with the VIN, whether this steering recall was carried out. When buying one second-hand, ask for the recall history.
- Cost cited in the source
- No verified estimate; check whether the free recall remedy remains outstanding for the VIN.A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.
