A recall does not mean your car is affected. Check the market, build date and VIN with the manufacturer.
- Engine / equipment
- Bolted joint between the steering rack and the front subframe: Volkswagen Golf VII, Tiguan II and Touran II, Audi Q3 (F3), Seat Ateca and Tarraco
- Period mentioned
- Built from 2014 to 2023, depending on the model (only the VINs in the recall)
- Symptoms
- At first you may notice nothing. Seat asks drivers not to drive on if they hear unusual metallic rattling from the front axle area or notice anything odd in the steering.
- Possible cause described
- Moisture gets into the bolted joint that holds the steering rack and, above all where a lot of road salt is used, the bolt slowly corrodes. If the bolt head breaks off, the steering rack may no longer be held securely and, at worst, the car can no longer be steered. In the UK these are recalls R/2026/360 (Volkswagen 48VS: Golf, Tiguan and Touran), R/2026/375 (Volkswagen 48VT: Tiguan), R/2026/359 (Audi 48LG: Q3) and R/2026/362 (Seat 48T7: Ateca and Tarraco), from October 2026. It is the same problem as Škoda recall 48LS.
- Check for the garage
- Ask a dealer of your brand, with the VIN, whether your car has this recall outstanding: they replace the bolt free of charge with a more corrosion-resistant one. If you hear metallic noises from the front or the steering behaves oddly, stop somewhere safe and call the dealer before driving on.
