- Engine / equipment
- 2.0 CR TDI (common rail) of the Passat B6, the Škoda Octavia II, the Superb II and the Audi A3
- Period mentioned
- Recall running since December 2011
- Symptoms
- A smell of fuel and an engine that runs differently from usual or unevenly, from a possible fuel leak.
- Possible cause described
- According to the ADAC (its used-car reports on the Passat 2005–2010 diesel and the Octavia 2004–2013 diesel), insufficient material in the high-pressure lines can cause vibration cracks and let fuel out. The recall is free: the dealer checks the lines and, if there is no earlier damage, adds a vibration damper; damaged lines are replaced. It takes up to an hour. In Germany it covered 105,000 Passats (together with other models; action code 23K2), 4,067 cars across the Octavia and Superb II (with other models) and 3,000 with the Audi A3.
- Check for the garage
- If it smells of fuel or the engine runs oddly, do not keep driving and take it to a garage, because a fuel leak can be dangerous. Ask VW or Škoda by VIN whether the recall was done; on the Passat there should be an action sticker in the spare wheel well and an entry in the service book (code 23K2).
