No start or timing cover noise caused by a dislodged crank gear flange

Sources are not verified in real time and no entry confirms that your car is affected.

Engine / equipment
Compass (II) 2.0 Multijet diesel
Period mentioned
2023–2024
Symptoms
Abnormal noise or rubbing around the timing cover and, sometimes, the car will not start although the starter turns.
Possible cause described
The crank gear flange shifts because of a manufacturing defect and pushes the timing belt out of place. FCA has the belt position inspected and, if needed, the kit replaced (bulletin 09-014-24, May 2024) on Compass 2.0 diesels built from 2/2/2023 to 24/2/2024.
Check for the garage
If there is rubbing at the timing cover, do not keep driving or keep trying to start it: a misplaced belt can wreck the engine. Have it towed to the garage.
