Suspension, exhaust, electronics and campaigns on the Mondeo IVKnown weak points
- Engine / equipment
- Ford Mondeo IV (petrol and diesel)
- Period mentioned
- 2007–2014
- Symptoms
- Play in suspension and steering joints at the roadworthiness test, many exhaust defects and oil leaks; immobiliser (2007–2010), engine management (2007–2013), camshaft sensor, starter; on diesels, a clogged particulate filter (up to 2012), boost control and CAN bus (2012).
- Possible cause described
- Recalls: a control unit (several systems failing, fixed by software), the brake-servo check valve, the pressure plate (fire risk) and 2.2 TDCi injector O-rings that can leak fuel onto the hot engine.
- Check for the garage
- Check campaigns by VIN; check suspension, exhaust and leaks; on diesels, the particulate filter.

Lack of power with the engine warning light and P0299 / P0234 on the 1.6 EcoBoost: wastegate solenoidInjection / turbo
- Engine / equipment
- 1.6 EcoBoost direct injection: Focus, C-Max, Kuga, Fiesta ST, Mondeo and Transit Connect
- Period mentioned
- 2013–2016
- Symptoms
- The engine loses power and the engine warning light comes on. The computer stores codes P0234 (turbo overboost), P0245 or P0246 (wastegate solenoid circuit) or P0299 (turbo underboost).
- Possible cause described
- Ford bulletin 15-0162 (October 2015) for the 1.6 EcoBoost of the Escape, Fiesta ST and Fusion says to check the charge-air-cooler pipes and vacuum lines first; if they are fine, the cause is the solenoid valve that regulates the turbo wastegate, and it is replaced.
- Check for the garage
- Read the codes. Check that the charge-air-cooler pipes and vacuum lines are not split or loose; if they are fine, test the wastegate solenoid (under the engine) and make sure its hoses are fully fitted before replacing the turbo.

1.6 TDCi turbo starved of oilInjection / turbo
- Engine / equipment
- 1.6 TDCi (DV6)
- Period mentioned
- Approx. 2004–2018
- Symptoms
- Hissing from the engine, diesel smell in the cabin, very dark oil between changes and, eventually, a failing turbo with smoke and loss of power.
- Possible cause described
- The injectors’ copper washers stop sealing; the gases form carbon that gets into the oil and blocks the mesh filter in the turbo oil-feed pipe, starving the turbo. The wrong oil and switching off with the turbo very hot make it worse.
- Check for the garage
- Check the injector washers and the turbo oil-feed filter. If the turbo is replaced, also clean the sump, intercooler and feed pipe, or the new turbo can fail again. Use low-SAPS oil.
- Cost cited in the source
- Approx. €1,200–2,500 for a turbo replacement with oil-circuit cleaningA rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.
