Oil diluted with diesel during particulate filter regenerations (Mazda6 GH 2.2 diesel on short trips)Engine
- Engine / equipment
- Mazda6 (GH) 2.2 diesel with particulate filter
- Period mentioned
- 2008–2012
- Symptoms
- The oil level rises on the dipstick instead of falling, especially on cars used mostly for short trips.
- Possible cause described
- According to AUTO BILD, it is the diesel’s only weak point: on short trips, diesel gets into the oil during particulate filter regeneration and dilutes it.
- Check for the garage
- Check the oil level with the engine cold; if it is above the maximum or smells of diesel, change the oil and filter. Make a long road trip now and then so the regeneration can finish.
