Accessory belt that slips or breaks on the Dacia 1.6 16V (Logan and Duster up to 2013)Engine
Engine / equipment
1.6 16V petrol (K4M) with air conditioning and power steering: Dacia Logan and Duster built in Pitești
Period mentioned
2010–2013
Symptoms
The accessory belt slips, wears early together with its roller or breaks; if it breaks, power steering and alternator charging are lost.
Possible cause described
The alternator pulley is a fixed wheel and does not absorb the engine's rotational irregularities, so the belt suffers. In February 2015 Dacia opened a curative workshop action for the Logan and Duster 1.6 16V built in Pitești up to 27/4/2013 (6,344 cars in France): it replaces the alternator and the accessory belt kit and, in extreme cases, the engine.
Check for the garage
Check the accessory belt and the tensioner roller and whether the alternator has a fixed pulley. If the belt slips or is cracked, replace it with the roller; ask Dacia by VIN whether the car was in the 2015 action. If the belt breaks while driving, stop: without it the battery is not charged.
