- Engine / equipment
- 1.5 TSI evo (EA211 evo): Golf VII and VIII, T-Roc, Tiguan, Octavia, Leon, Ibiza, Arona, Karoq, A3…
- Period mentioned
- 2017–2022
- Symptoms
- Rhythmic jerking (“kangaroo effect”) and hesitation when accelerating at roughly 1,200–2,000 rpm, with a cold engine and in low gears; most noticeable with a manual gearbox.
- Possible cause described
- An engine management fault during warm-up. Volkswagen released a software update for all group brands in February 2020, which fixed it on most cars; on some it only reduced it. Mechanically it is a reliable engine.
- Check for the garage
- Test the car from cold in first and second gear, and check at the dealer whether the latest engine control unit software is installed.

Starter battery and unwelded lower arms on the Transit / Tourneo Connect IIIKnown weak points
- Engine / equipment
- Third-generation Ford Transit / Tourneo Connect (built on the VW Caddy)
- Period mentioned
- 2022–2023
- Symptoms
- The engine will not start or starts reluctantly because of the battery; front-end knocks or, in the worst case, a broken lower arm.
- Possible cause described
- In ADAC’s breakdown statistics, the starter battery is the known cause of call-outs for Tourneo / Transit Connect vans registered in 2023. ADAC also lists a November 2022 recall: because of an assembly error, one or more welds may be missing on the lower arm, which can break (built from March to July 2022, 117 worldwide).
- Check for the garage
- Have the battery tested at the garage (especially if the van does short trips); check the lower-arm campaign by VIN on 2022-built vans.
