Connecting rods and pistons on the 1.6 GDI (Gamma)Engine
- Engine / equipment
- 1.6 GDI Gamma: Kia Soul II and Carens IV, Hyundai Veloster, i40 and ix35
- Period mentioned
- 2012–2016
- Symptoms
- Engine knock, oil-pressure warning and loss of power; with an overheated catalytic converter, abnormal combustion that damages the pistons.
- Possible cause described
- Two defects documented in the US: on the 2012–2016 Kia Soul, high exhaust temperatures could damage the catalytic converter and, with it, pistons and connecting rods (recall 19V-120, new protection software); on the 2015–2016 Veloster, the connecting-rod bearings wore early (recall 20V-746, KSDS software).
- Check for the garage
- Ask by VIN about an outstanding campaign; with knocking or the oil warning, stop. Check the catalytic converter if there is hesitation or loss of power.

Brake warning light and other warnings from the electric vacuum pump on the Tucson 1.6 T-GDiBrakes
- Engine / equipment
- Hyundai Tucson (TL) 1.6 T-GDi (turbo petrol)
- Period mentioned
- 2016–2017
- Symptoms
- Several warning lights come on at once on the instrument panel, including the brake warning light.
- Possible cause described
- The electric vacuum pump (under the engine) that assists the brake servo can fail at its cap and around its connector. Hyundai USA opened service campaign T3C (bulletin 18-01-026, September 2018) for 2016–2017 Tucson 1.6 Turbo: if warning lights are on, the pump cap is replaced; if not, the connector area is sealed.
- Check for the garage
- With the brake warning light on, check that the pedal brakes normally and go to the garage without delay: without assistance the pedal becomes hard. The garage reads the codes, removes the engine undertray and checks the electric vacuum pump, its cap and its connector.

- In the US, free under the service campaign; in Europe, ask Hyundai.A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.

Tucson door that will not open first time: door latch with extended warranty (2015–2016)Bodywork
- Engine / equipment
- Early Hyundai Tucson (TL) (all versions: it is a door part)
- Period mentioned
- 2015–2016
- Symptoms
- The inside or outside handle of a door does not open it, or it takes several pulls to open.
- Possible cause described
- According to Hyundai USA bulletin 21-BD-006H (May 2021), on Tucsons built from 19/5/2015 to 17/12/2016 the door latch fails (the latch inside the door, not the handle). Hyundai extended its warranty to 10 years with no mileage limit and replaces it with a new one.
- Check for the garage
- Try each door with the inside and outside handle, with the lock released. If one fails, the garage replaces that door's latch; ask Hyundai by VIN whether your car has the extended warranty.
- Cost cited in the source
- In the US, free under the warranty extended to 10 years; in Europe, ask Hyundai.A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.

- Engine / equipment
- 7-speed dry dual-clutch automatic (7DCT)
- Period mentioned
- Approx. 2015–2021
- Symptoms
- Abnormal vibration or shudder when pulling away and at low speed, especially in traffic.
- Possible cause described
- Dual-clutch behaviour at low speed; Hyundai and Kia issued technical bulletins with new gearbox software (anti-judder logic) and, if that is not enough, a clutch replacement.
- Check for the garage
- At the dealer: run the judder test with the diagnostic tool, install the latest gearbox software and replace the dual clutch only if the judder remains.
