Harsh shifts and faults on the Cherokee’s 9-speed automaticGearbox
- Engine / equipment
- ZF 9-speed automatic (948TE) in the Jeep Cherokee KL
- Period mentioned
- 2014–2016
- Symptoms
- Harsh or erratic shifts, jerks and, on some 2014 cars, the gearbox shifting into neutral by itself while driving.
- Possible cause described
- The gearbox received many software updates (at least 11 up to 2016) to fix shift quality. In addition, a valve could stick and stop a clutch from releasing, shifting into neutral: there were recalls and Jeep even replaced 2014 and 2015 gearboxes.
