Metallic creak at the rear from the rear shock absorber top mountSuspension and steering
- Engine / equipment
- 911 (991) Carrera, Targa and Turbo
- Period mentioned
- 2017–2018
- Symptoms
- A metallic creak around the top of the rear wheel when going over speed bumps or potholes.
- Possible cause described
- The rear coil spring force may be out of tolerance; the side load overloads the insert in the shock absorber top mount and the piston rod rubs against the mount housing. Porsche describes it in technical information 142/17 (February 2018): if there is already damage, the rear inserts, top mounts and coil springs are replaced in pairs, and the shock absorbers depending on mileage.
- Check for the garage
- Note when it creaks (speed bumps, potholes, turning). At the garage, have them remove and inspect the rear spring and shock absorber assembly (insert, top mount, spring and shock absorber) before looking at other parts.

Hydraulic tensioner, cooling, coils and gearbox on the 911 (991)Known weak points
- Engine / equipment
- Porsche 911 (991.1 and 991.2)
- Period mentioned
- 2012–2019
- Symptoms
- Misfires (coils), the engine cutting out when hot (crankshaft sensor), oil on the auxiliary belt (hydraulic tensioner, early 991.1), water-pump and turbo coolant-line leaks (early 991.2), a thermostat stuck open with the engine light, notchy shifts on the 7-speed manual or PDK warnings.
- Possible cause described
- Known 991 points: Porsche extended the warranty on some water pumps to 10 years, replaced the turbo lines on early 991.2 cars and replaced some 2017 engines for oil consumption. There were recalls for a fuel connector (2012) and the GT3 connecting rods (2014). The PDK needs an oil change every 4 years or 40,000 miles.
- Check for the garage
- Check the history of the water pump, turbo lines and thermostat; read codes; check the PDK service and campaigns by VIN.
