Symptoms

Fluctuations in the electrical system with faults in different systems, up to the car not starting and, in isolated cases, the joint heating up and scorching.

Possible cause described

According to the ADAC, vibration, temperature changes, moisture and road salt can cause corrosion at the pass-through of the B+ lead in the boot; resistance rises and the electrical system fluctuates with faults in several systems, even a car that will not start. In isolated cases the bolted joint heats up and can scorch. The leads are checked and replaced if needed. It is free and covered 273,698 cars in Germany (with other models).

Ask BMW by VIN whether it was done. If the car has odd electrical faults or will not start, tell the garage: it could be that joint.
