AUTO BILD (2017 used-car test) says pre-2009 Antara are more troublesome and that in 2009 the steering was thoroughly revised because of durability problems that led to recalls. For the 2.0 CDTI it mentions early clutch wear, and on pre-2009 diesels a notchy manual gearshift; the 2.4 petrol gives the fewest problems and the 2.2 diesel from late 2009 gives fewer than the 2.0. As finish defects it names leather seats splitting at the seams, rusting tailgates and frequent bulb failures; as workshop visits, faulty instruments, ABS and ESP warning lights and knocking from the steering or suspension. Pixel faults in the digital displays are usually expensive to repair.

When buying one second-hand, ask for the steering recall history, test the clutch (above all on the 2.0 CDTI), check that the instruments and displays work properly, look for rust on the tailgate and listen for knocking from the steering or suspension.
