Springs and dampers that fail early, brakes that wear quickly, oil leaks, EGR (2005, 2011, 2013–2014), starter (2004–2007), injectors (2010–2014) and ignition lock (2003–2012).

Possible cause described

According to the ADAC, VW's first compact van does not do well in the breakdown statistics, with clearly more breakdowns up to 2007, and the German roadworthiness test finds a lot to criticise depending on the year. Overall the Touran does not offer VW's usual reliability. The common rail engines need the mandatory software update.
