Engine / equipment
Tailgate gas struts: Nissan X-Trail T32
Period mentioned
2014–2016 (only the VINs in the recall)
Symptoms
The tailgate does not stay open and can drop onto whoever is underneath.
Possible cause described
According to the UK DVSA (R/2016/081) and the EU alert A12/0509/16 (Safety Gate), the paint on the outer tube of the gas struts does not meet the anti-corrosion design; the tube can corrode and crack and lose its pressurised gas, and then it cannot hold the tailgate, which can drop on the user.
Check for the garage
If the tailgate drops by itself or is hard to keep up, do not stand under it. Ask a Nissan dealer, with the VIN, whether the recall is outstanding on your car. They replace the gas struts.
