Battery wiring on the Kona II that can short-circuit after a crashElectrical and electronic systems
Engine / equipment
Second-generation Hyundai Kona
Period mentioned
2023–2024
Symptoms
No symptoms in normal use; after an accident the battery wiring can short-circuit and overheat the engine bay.
Possible cause described
Austria’s ÖAMTC published the recall of 751 Kona built from 21/3/2023 to 5/1/2024: the garage reworks the battery wiring in about 30 minutes. In the US the 2024 Kona also had campaigns for a 12 V battery cable that could rub against a bracket.
Check for the garage
Check by VIN at the dealer that the campaign has been done.

Charging on an AC charger stops or slows down (Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Kona Electric, campaign 9B5)Electric charging
Engine / equipment
Hyundai Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5 and second-generation Kona Electric
Period mentioned
2022–2024
Symptoms
When charging on an AC point (at home or on a 7–11 kW post), the session is interrupted or charging is slower than normal.
Possible cause described
According to Hyundai bulletin 24-01-051H-1 (campaign 9B5, September 2024), the car stops or reduces charging to avoid damaging the cable connection. The new logic of the charging manager (VCMS) makes it restart by itself and charge at full power again once things stabilise. It affects Ioniq 6 built from 14/12/2022 to 25/12/2023, Ioniq 5 from 4/10/2023 to 18/12/2023 and Kona Electric from 5/10/2023 to 13/7/2024.
Check for the garage
Check the build date and ask Hyundai by VIN whether the charging manager has the campaign 9B5 update. Also check that the cable and socket are not hot, dirty or damaged: if they are, do not charge until they have been checked.
Cost cited in the source
No parts cost: it is a software update; ask whether the warranty covers it.A rough figure from the original database, not an up-to-date quote.
