Wipers that do not return to their rest position because of a loose motor crank arm nutVisibility / electronics
- Engine / equipment
- Tucson (IV), all engines
- Period mentioned
- 2021–2025
- Symptoms
- When switched off, the front wipers do not go back down: they stop halfway up the glass or in a different place each time. They sweep normally while working.
- Possible cause described
- The nut joining the crank arm (the linkage arm) to the wiper motor shaft works loose and the rest position goes out of adjustment. In the US, Hyundai extended the warranty on that nut to 10 years or 100,000 miles (extension Z08, bulletin 26-BD-007H) for Tucsons built from 2021 to 2025.
- Check for the garage
- Tell the garage that they stop in different places when switched off and ask them to check the tightness of the motor crank arm nut before replacing the wiper motor. The warranty extension is for the US; in Europe, ask the dealer.

View full entryShift shock between 1st and 2nd in the 7-speed DCT caused by an input shaft snap ringAutomatic gearbox
- Engine / equipment
- Kona (I) 1.6 T-GDi with the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DCT)
- Period mentioned
- 2021–2022
- Symptoms
- A sharp knock or jolt when shifting from 1st to 2nd, or when changing down from 2nd to 1st while slowing down. The other gears are fine.
- Possible cause described
- An input shaft snap ring (circlip) in the gearbox is out of specification. Hyundai fixes it in service campaign T7E (bulletin 22-01-007H, January 2022): the garage checks the shift shock and replaces the ring, with about 3.5 to 3.8 hours of labour.
- Check for the garage
- Explain that the knock is only between 1st and 2nd and ask them to check whether the car has campaign T7E outstanding, or the input shaft snap ring, before replacing clutches or the gearbox control unit.

- Engine / equipment
- 2.0 and 2.4 Theta II (MPI and GDI): Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe and ix35; Kia Sorento, Sportage and Optima
- Period mentioned
- 2009–2019
- Symptoms
- Metallic engine knock that rises with revs, oil-pressure warning, loss of power and, in the worst case, a broken connecting rod with an oil leak and fire risk.
- Possible cause described
- The connecting-rod bearings wear prematurely (in the first cases because of crankshaft machining debris). In the US there were recalls and a settlement that fits the KSDS system free of charge; it monitors vibration and puts the engine into protection mode. In Germany (KBA 013054) Kia recalled the Sorento 2.4 MPI built from 11/1/2011 to 17/6/2015 and the Optima 2.0 GDI hybrid.
- Check for the garage
- Ask Hyundai or Kia by VIN about a campaign or KSDS update; with knocking or the oil warning, stop and do not keep driving; check the oil level often.

- Period mentioned
- 2012–2016
- Symptoms
- Engine knock, oil-pressure warning and loss of power; with an overheated catalytic converter, abnormal combustion that damages the pistons.
- Possible cause described
- Two defects documented in the US: on the 2012–2016 Kia Soul, high exhaust temperatures could damage the catalytic converter and, with it, pistons and connecting rods (recall 19V-120, new protection software); on the 2015–2016 Veloster, the connecting-rod bearings wore early (recall 20V-746, KSDS software).
- Check for the garage
- Ask by VIN about an outstanding campaign; with knocking or the oil warning, stop. Check the catalytic converter if there is hesitation or loss of power.

- Period mentioned
- 2021–2025
- Symptoms
- Fault warnings, the car goes into limp mode and can lose drive power while moving; the 12 V battery runs flat.
- Possible cause described
- The ICCU, which charges the 12 V battery from the high-voltage one, can be damaged by voltage spikes and thermal cycling. In the US more than 200,000 cars were recalled: the ICCU and its fuse are checked and replaced if needed and new software is installed; some cars that had already been updated failed again.
- Check for the garage
- Check the ICCU campaigns and software by VIN; if the warning appears, find a safe place to stop and call for assistance.

View full entry2.0 CRDi turbo, timing belt and front axle on the Santa Fe IKnown weak points
- Engine / equipment
- Hyundai Santa Fe I (2.4 and 2.7 V6 petrol, 2.0 CRDi)
- Period mentioned
- 2000–2006
- Symptoms
- On the 2.0 CRDi, a big loss of power and weak pulling away; on petrol, broken timing belts and leaking fuel pumps on early cars. Front-axle play, hard shifts when towing and a handbrake that pulls to one side.
- Possible cause described
- On the 2.0 CRDi-VGT, the turbo’s variable-vane mechanism seizes and sometimes the turbo has to be replaced. The clutch is small for the car’s weight. Front-axle joints wear early and brake lines rust. There was a recall because the rear trailing arms could break from road-salt corrosion.
- Check for the garage
