Where do I find the Euro standard and the engine size?
- The engine size is on the registration certificate (talon), in box P.1. In the vehicle identity card (CIV) it is at P1 or, on the oldest model, at point 10.
- The Euro standard is in the CIV, not on the talon: at “Cod național de emisii” (point 16 or 17, depending on the model) or, on old CIVs, in the last two characters of the type-approval number (point 5). E4 means Euro 4, E5 Euro 5 and E6 Euro 6.
- If you can't find it, choose “I don't know”: you will see the highest price, which is the one that applies when it is missing.

“Euro 0–3” also covers cars with no Euro standard (non-euro). “Hybrid” is the column for hybrids emitting over 50 g/km of CO₂; those emitting 50 g/km or less pay the same, with up to 30% off if their town hall approves it.
How it works.
- Every 200 cm³ or part of it counts: a 1,461 cm³ engine makes 8 groups.
- Whoever owns the car on 31 December of the year before pays it. A car bought this year pays from the following 1 January (art. 471).
- Electric cars pay 40 lei a year (art. 470(3¹)).
- Each town hall can add up to 100% (art. 489) and give up to 10% off to those who pay it all by 31 March (art. 472).
- Historic vehicles do not pay. War veterans and their widows, and people persecuted for political reasons, do not pay for one car (art. 469).
- With a severe or marked disability, a car under 2,000 cm³ pays 50% or 25% less (art. 469).
